I think some of us have very strong "gut" emotions that pull us where we need to go (whether we want them to or not). I think we see connections more readily when we want to -- are open to magic, perhaps, when we need it the most. That's what I say about Francesca in my book: that she needs some magic in her life badly, and it comes to her. Thanks for sharing your story.
gae polisnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10491813685110351809noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3782322998406687709.post-62714838243821657182014-03-03T14:08:05.849-08:002014-03-03T14:08:05.849-08:00These stories are so interesting to read. I'm ...These stories are so interesting to read. I'm sure we have all had events like this that have happened to us in our lives. I know I have. We just need to listen and pay attention.

I have one in particular that is still fresh in my mind, even though it happened almost 1 1/2 years ago. In September 2012, my uncle was near the end of a battle with cancer. He had just entered hospice care at home, so I was planning to go visit him and say my goodbyes. I was scheduled to work my part-time job the upcoming weekend, and couldn't get away until the following weekend. The Thursday before my working weekend, I had a dream that I called him. It was about 11:00 pm, but I had to tell him that I was stranded in Canada and had to find my way home (to Central New York). He said, "You're calling kind of late." And then he hung up. When I woke up the next day, I told my husband that I needed to see my uncle that weekend instead of the following one. On Saturday, I called in sick to work, and my family and I drove the two hours to see him. We were only able to spend a few hours with him, but my husband, children, and I were able to tell him we love him. I got the call on Monday that he had passed away. If I had waited until my schedule freed up, I would have missed him. I believe this was a message, in his voice, from a higher being. You'll notice if you read it (link to come) that she mentions Salinger's ESME... a short story I have never read, but for reasons too long to include here, have flagged to read because of something my son told me about Salinger, for possible inclusion in my Work In Progress. In fact, the WIP which is out with my agent, has a placeholder note suggesting I am going to insert a reference to a Salinger short story (ESME is the story I was considering) and, I actually have the book out IN MY LAP, but was procrastinating reading it by checking twitter first. Weird? I dunno. You tell me.

Either way, here's Libba's blog posto n depression. A moving and very important post.
http://libbabray.wordpress.com/2014/03/02/miles-and-miles-of-no-mans-land/gae polisnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10491813685110351809noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3782322998406687709.post-21532989482341441752014-03-03T09:57:00.326-08:002014-03-03T09:57:00.326-08:00Thanks for stopping by and reading, all! My father died when my son was only 7 months old, so he didn't directly influence my son's choice of profession. However, after a degree in economics from Dartmouth and an MBA, my son decided to start a construction company in Alaska, specializing in dirt work - water and sewer lines - just like his grandpa, a civil engineer who was known as one of the best dirt guys in the biz. Although my son didn't know it, my father's last job was in Alaska, and although my he grew up in Washington state, he went to Alaska to start his company.
